THREE WAY SPLIT
Four songs each from myself, Crystalline Roses and Peter Bonnemann. Two editions of fifty, screened covers in a gatefold, recycled with a booklet. I am also going to be releasing a radio show I did back in febuary. Four songs, three of mine and a Fahey cover, there is a few klankers but not bad overall. Im doing twenty in black paper covers with a psuedo obi. more to come. Both will be numbered.

We are playing some shows to support it, so please come out, our friend is coming over from denmark and we would like to see some good people there...

There will be copies of the CD, I will be making limited tapes or CDs and selling artwork for the shows, well for gas money anyways. There will be an 11x17 Poster that features all artists playing and some drawings and barely legible 60s type fonts.

3 Way split is mixed and mastered, dates are in the works for a weekend in July, 16-19 tentatively, and a show at the Bookmill on the 17th hopefully...

I was added on to a bill at the Unitarian Church in Amherst, MA on June 5th playing with some friends and poets... Jazer Giles, Julia, Nathan H. and Myself, hoping to start around 7 I believe, more details as they come or just look for a poster...

The LP was also mixed by my friend Kevin Gebo, and will be mastered soon, and then off to the presses I believe.

I have been experimenting more with how I have been performing, so at these shows expect some different things, including my friend Zac playing with me sometimes as well.

Walker was born in Boston, MA in 1937, into a musical family, and began to play the guitar from an early age. He committed himself to touring and public performance from 1959 onwards, becoming a fixture of the Greenwich Village folk scene of the mid-'60s (during which period he became particularly close to Sandy Bull and Karen Dalton). Over the same period, Walker's attendance of a Ravi Shankar performance in San Francisco saw him embrace extended periods of study of Eastern raga under both Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan. Through mutual Boston associates Walker also developed a strong friendship with LSD pioneer Timothy Leary, becoming music director at Leary's Millbrook estate in 1965.

Walker's debut LP Rainy Day Raga was released by Vanguard Records in 1966, followed by the release of Second Poem in 1968. Walker diverted his attention away from public performance and towards family life at the start of the 1970s, but maintained a commitment to study of his instrument, focussing particularly upon Flamenco. In 2007 Walker was coaxed out of this semi-retirement by Joshua Rosenthal of Tompkins Square Records, for whom he recorded four new pieces to be set alongside musical tributes from younger admirers including Jack Rose, James Blackshaw, Steffen Basho-Junghans and Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore on the 2008 collection A Raga for Peter Walker. A full album of new material, Echo of My Soul, was released by Tompkins Square later the same year. These releases were supported by extensive touring and live performance, sparking a renewed level of interest which culminated in a recorded session for Stuart Maconie on BBC 6 Music, and an extended interview on BBC Radio 4's flagship early morning current affairs show The Today Programme.

Shows were pretty fun and thanks to anyone who came out. I think Zac and I will spend some time in the studio and think about adding a full band because playing with Todd was too much fun, and our set in Pittsfield seemed to be lacking energy or flow or something, the place had a really lull state to it as well, so it was hard to get things circulating.

Other news, total sidetrack... I have gone to 2 of these Dead shows, and am going to a 3rd one tonight, they have been really great I suggest going over to archive.org and listening to one, my preferences have been night 2 in Worcester (4-19-09) and the Nassau show (4-24) Wilkes Barre is also a nice showing, and if this MSG one gets up there its a trip of a setlist... here are the setlists for the two I have seen...

E: Johnny B. Goode I showed up late, couldnt find parking was really bumming but the China Rider was totally grooving and a nice pick me up after a loose althea and a spacey Bird Song. Space was the theme, set 2 was really free flowing and distant, and they were sort of finding themselves the whole night. The Acoustic set was a nice touch into a very spaced out second set, with an absolutely rocking Goin Down the Road to close it out. 3 Dylan covers, crazy night. So I have sort of put everything aside for a little while for these shows, but tonight is Hartford and the last one I will be able to make, so heres to a nice run... this will be 12.00 but Peter Walker will be playing in Western, MA and it will be all going to him!
Peter was a legendary instrumental guitar player around in the 60s and still alive, well and performing today!

The LP is done finished up about 2 weeks ago, 13 songs and about 40 minutes worth of music, it will feature an array of guitars, hand drums, bells, banjos, and sitar... the Split recordings are done as well all recorded live directly to handheld tape recorder, so more music soon...

Ripples in the Upside Down Lake of the Void.

Some texts just breeze past you, even when you are reading them. The title of this EP is actually a quote from "On the Road," Kerouac says something to the effect of the stars looked like ripples in the upside down lake of the void. This struck home with me because I interpreted it as the ocean being the upside down lake of the void, and the stars rippling through, the way lights reflect of the ocean when looking outward. It was the perfect title, for a concept based CDR that has to do with ones relationship and respect for the sea, and the inherent, ancient, and uninterpretable knowledge contained therein. A lot of the ideas for songwriting were informed by readings of Maldoror, and mainly what I believe is the 3rd part, where the Comte de Leatremont states everything in relation to Old Ocean. It is more of an ode or nod in my opinion. Here is a link to download the EP.

Originally released in an edition of 50 numbered CDRs in brown gatefold sleeves, 25 of which came with a linoleum print of an Angler Fish. I did about 15 extra ones in photocopied sleeves for a later show which escapes me now. Please comment if you enjoy.
